Hebrew Book Week has been one of the most prominent events in the Israeli cultural landscape for almost a century. The Hebrew Book Week attracts approximately 150,000 visitors annually to its two main events in Tel Aviv (Sarona Complex) and Jerusalem. The event is managed by the Book Publishers Association of Israel, the umbrella organization for publishers.
This year as well, Hebrew Book Week takes place under the theme "This is Our Story," and we see it as an opportunity for Israelis from diverse circles and backgrounds, who share a love for books, to come together.
Hebrew Book Week is a unique event that, in addition to being a fun happening offering live performances, children's activities, and more, has its own distinctive characteristics:
- Egalitarian and Pluralistic: The fairs promote book culture in Israel in an egalitarian and pluralistic manner. It is a display of national consensus in which all segments of the population, across all ages, take part.
- Massive Scale: This is the only place of the year where the literary and cultural output can be presented on such a massive scale, featuring the participation of about 120 publishing houses.
- Rare Finds & Variety: The event provides a once-a-year opportunity for the public to enjoy a wide variety of genres and a broad selection of books that are no longer available in stores.
- Direct Encounters: This is the only place and time throughout the year where a huge number of visitors can meet directly with dozens of authors, editors, and publishers.
- Supporting Local Creators: Additionally, Book Week encourages local creators and allows them to showcase their work on a large scale.
